Hinangakure no Sato - Village Hidden in the Oasis
For generations, the world was in a constant state of turmoil and Chaos. All through out the land, great battles between warriors known as Shinobi took place. The Desert continent, once known as a name long forgotten, was known for the most brutal of wars. It is because of this is became known as Shi no Kuni, the Land of the Dead. While the rest of the Shinobi world banned together with their family to fight for the pride of their clan, the Shinobi of the Desert sought to earn the respect of an even greater power; Gods. Four armies fought for control of Shi no Kuni, each one carrying the banner of a different God.
Inir - God of Wisdom
Inir, the God of Wisdom, depicted as a large crane, was the most peaceful of the five Gods. His followers were scholars and monks, only moved to action once their home had become threatened. They were master of fuuton based nintaijutsu, the more advanced warriors even utilizing sand in their style. The were also granted the ability to sense those around them with a type of echo location, allowing them to fight even in the constant sand storms that swept though the continent. The more powerful members were known to sprout feathers along their arms and backs.
Ephine - Goddess of Deception
Ephine, the Goddess of Deception, often referred to by her followers as the Prowler, or Mother of the Night, was shown as a black and white cat. Her followers were granted a series of abilities, allowing them to see in the dark, and sometimes even create their own darkness. This made them perfect for collecting information and assassinating their targets in the dead of night, rather than face them on the battlefield. The more powerful members were known to grow whiskers, and even develop a tail and cat ears.
Rimdes - God of Strength
Rimdes, God of Strength, is said to have created the large Oasis that sat at the center of the continent so that his brothers, the ferocious crocodiles, could have a place to call home. His followers were the most fierce of any of the four armies, combining powerful Suiton ninjutsu with their mighty warglaives. Though powerful on the battlefield, their true advantage lied in their ability to breath under water, allowing them to ambush members of the other orders when they came to collect water. The more powerful members were known to have developed scaly skin and sharp teeth, resembling their crocodile brethren.
Esris - Goddess of Ambition
Esris, the Goddess of Ambition, was also known as the Goddess of Death and Destruction. Unlike the other Gods, there was no depiction of Esris. No one had seen her, only heard her whispers. She was the youngest of the four Gods, having been bread from the fear and hatred created by the fighting between the other three. It was because of this that she granted her followers the most powers, binding their souls to her own personal Shinigami in return for God like powers of their own, ranging from Necromancy, to allowing them to call forth the denizens of the underworld to feed on the chakra of the real world. Those who followed her were said to become more and more corrupt as they used their powers, their souls fusing with the Shinigami they were connected to, eventually becoming one, and becoming something no longer human.
